Is pineapple low FODMAP?
Low FODMAP
Yes. Fresh pineapple is low FODMAP in a typical portion. Dried pineapple is concentrated, so it is much higher in FODMAPs.
Monash University lists pineapple as a low FODMAP fruit. A typical portion of fresh pineapple is a good swap for higher FODMAP tropical fruits such as mango.
Fresh vs dried
Drying removes water and concentrates the sugars, and Monash lists dried fruit as high FODMAP. A handful of dried pineapple contains far more fruit than a few fresh chunks. Juice blends may include apple or other high FODMAP fruits, so check the label.
Spread fruit out
Even low FODMAP fruits add up when you eat several portions at once, so spread fruit across the day. Check the Monash University FODMAP app for tested portions. Other easy choices are kiwi, oranges and strawberries.
