Is egg low FODMAP?
Yes. Eggs contain essentially no carbohydrates, so they have no FODMAPs. Watch what you cook them with, like onion, garlic or regular milk.
FODMAPs are carbohydrates, and eggs contain almost none. Monash University lists eggs, along with plain cooked meat, poultry and seafood, as low FODMAP proteins. Boiled, poached, scrambled or fried, eggs are a reliable base for meals during the elimination phase.
Watch the add-ins
Omelettes and frittatas often include onion, garlic or mushrooms. Scrambled eggs may be made with regular milk. Use lactose-free milk, spinach, tomato, chives or the green tops of spring onions instead.
If eggs still bother you
Eggs are not a FODMAP issue, but large, greasy fried breakfasts can trigger symptoms in some people, and egg allergy or intolerance is a separate condition. A food and symptom diary helps you spot the pattern.
